Company History
Incorporated in 1996, Timberline Drilling, Inc. is headquartered in beautiful Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and supported by our field office in mining hub Elko, Nevada. We are a leading underground and surface core-drilling contractor in the United States. Our ability to deliver quality core samples, on time and on budget, from meticulously clean and safe drill sites, has made us the go-to contractor for several clients. Our goal is to create long-term relationships with every customer we have the pleasure the serve.
Meet Our Team
Martin Lanphere
PresidentMartin Lanphere
Mr. Lanphere joined TDI in 2008 as a highly motivated logistical problem solver. He began his education in the US Marine Corps, where he acquired an impeccable work ethic that he carried with him to his career in the financial services industry managing over 100 employees while efficiently managing large accounts and focusing on profitable growth. Martin brings his enthusiastic leadership style and years of experience implementing efficient processes and managing and motivating people to Timberline Drilling.
Lewis Walde
VP of FinanceLewis Walde
Mr. Walde has worked with Timberline since January 2009 and has over 17 years experience in financial management within the mining industry. Mr. Walde was formerly the Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer for Hecla Mining Company. Mr. Walde is a CPA and holds a Masters of Business Administration Degree.
CJ Larsen
VP of OperationsCJ Larsen
Mr. Larsen joined Timberline Drilling in 2005. His duties during this time have included Operations Manager and General Manager before being named VP of Operations in 2015. His background includes 15 years in management in the LP Gas Industry in the Western U.S. He has extensive experience in managing crews, projects and client relations. He holds an AS Geology degree from Dixie State University in St. George UT.
John Dietel

John Dietel
Mr. Dietel was with Timberline since the company was founded in 1996. He had more than 25 years of experience as a lead driller and foreman, bringing vast knowledge of all aspects of the drilling industry. John assisted in establishing and maintaining Timberline’s continued commitment and dedication to safety and training. Mr. Dietel brought veteran leadership and technical experience in the drilling industry to the TDI Team.
Kurtis Tresham
General ManagerKurtis Tresham
Mr. Tresham joined the Timberline team in 2009. With more than 16 years experience in the drilling industry Kurt’s tireless work ethic, hands on approach, commitment to safety and overall dedication to the success of the company makes him a key member of our leadership team. Mr. Tresham works alongside colleagues at all levels of the company to ensure the best possible service for our customers.
Tony Moore
HSLP DirectorTony Moore
Mr. Moore joined the Timberline team in 2008 and brings his extensive safety and health knowledge to the company. Tony is a certified safety professional, MSHA instructor, and certified Health and Safety Auditor. He is responsible for development and implementation of environment, health and safety and training programs. Before joining TDI, Mr. Moore has been a Health and Safety Specialist and Manager and worked for a large Nevada mining corporation for 14 years.
Shane Shannon
Senior Operations ManagerShane Shannon
After attending New Mexico State University, Mr. Shannon dedicated himself to the drilling industry and Timberline Drilling, Inc. His ascent from Driller’s Apprentice to Senior Operations Manager is a testament to the culture within TDI. Shane utilizes his unique ability to connect with crews at all levels of operation to ensure all training, safety, and quality standards are understood and met.
Cody Unger
Business DevelopmentCody Unger
Mr. Unger began working for Timberline Drilling in 2013 following a career in several areas of the mining industry. Twenty-three years ago, Cody’s hands-on experience began with heavy equipment operation and mine demolitions work. He progressed into surveying and mine planning for the engineering department of a large mining corporation. Shortly before joining TDI, he was a Field Safety Manager responsible for safety training, site inspections, and MSHA/OSHA compliance. Clients are well-served by Cody’s familiarity with all phases of site design, drilling operations, and individual project complexity.
Julian Collins
Executive Commercial ManagerJulian Collins
Mr. Collins joined the Timberline team in 2019 as part of the IDEA Drilling acquisition. Julian brings to TDI 20 years of drilling services experience. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology, and a Master’s in Business Administration. Prior to coming to IDEA Drilling, Julian ran commercial activities at Boart Longyear for the USA and then in a Global capacity after starting up a successful environmental drilling company from the ground up.
